A ‘Girl Jams’ Mixtape

Listen on 8tracks

This summer I’ve been getting back into listening to a lot of lo-fi indie rock music.

It started with reminiscing on Blink 182, Sum 41, then The Veronicas, The Donnas, Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, and the original 90s angst-rock goddess, Alanis Morissette.

Watching Freaky Friday (2003) for one of the many hundredth times, I wondered, where are these awesome angsty girl-backed bands today? And more importantly where are the girls that wanna start the next Pink Slip?

Well, they are here and they still exist!

One of the best discoveries I ever made this past year – in terms of bedroom girl rock – has been, The Aquadolls (among many other great discoveries including: Mitski and Girlpool).

All these girls absolutely rock and bring out a real reminiscent vibe in all of their very original songs.

After listening to an old favorite, the lo-fi, indie, surf pop duo Best Coast, I’m glad my very intense craving for something similar, with an infusion of feminism (plus a real hinge of 90s nostalgia), was satisfied.

Give a listen if you’re into it, and if not, definitely check out all the recommended mixes and especially the artists.
